A Jack of All Trades is a Master of None

A Jack of All Trades is a Master of None

Let me start off by saying that we love Handymen. They are great, can get lots of stuff done with one phone call, and are reasonably priced. That being said, there are projects within the scope of a Handyman, and there are projects outside of that scope. Is it obvious that we are about to say that Foundation Repair is outside of that scope?

Months of Training, Years of Experience

With something as specialized as Foundation Repair, there is a lot of training that goes behind our work. Our technicians go through months of training before going out on the field alone. The years of experience they build after that makes us a Master of our trade.

When it comes to your Foundation, you do not want to mess around. A damaged foundation affects the entire home, and your living situation therein. A couple small jobs are ok for a Handyman to handle, though done incorrectly could cost you.

Let’s take a small job, for instance. Sump Pump replacement. You have a pump that burned out and now the Handyman is going to come to replace it. Seems simple, right? Take the old out, put the new in. But there are a lot of factors that can affect the installation:

  1. Float Switch Used
    1. A static, vertical float switch should be used. Tethered float switches should ALWAYS be avoided for storm systems. Tethered float switches are for Ejector (wastewater) Pumps only.
  2. Bleeder Hold Drilled
    1. Did you know a 1/8” hole needs to be drilled below the check valve on a Sump Pump? Without this hole installed, the pump could lock up.
  3.  Check Valve
    1. Does your Handyman know to put a check valve on your sump pump? Without a check valve, the water can cycle back into the pit.

It’s Complicated

Not unlike your last relationship, the repair of a Foundation is complicated. There are many little details to our systems, like the Sump above, that many Handymen do not know about. I once had a Handyman tell a customer to cap their Drain Tile. (BIG No-No).

While we love handymen, there is a time and a place. Foundation Repair is not one of them. Seeing as it is the biggest investment most of us will ever make, we should take good care of it.

We are not electricians. We are not plumbers. We are not carpenters. We are not roofers. We are Foundation Repair & Basement Waterproofing Specialists. We are MASTERS of this, and back it up every day. Should you have any questions, call us! We have been doing this for years and years, and that experience has allowed us to take care of our customers in the best possible fashion.

So, if you are need Foundation Repair, Waterproofing Services, Egress Window Installation, or Concrete Leveling, give us a call! We would be happy to help!

Thanks for reading, and as always:
