People living in the Phoenix area were recently hit by torrential rainfall and gusting winds when a series of intense storms came to the Southwestern U.S. this week. Not least of Phoenix-area homeowners’ troubles was the storms’ impact on their homes, especially the foundations of said homes.
For homes without a waterproofed basement, excessive flooding of the surrounding ground water can result in water seeping through the basement cracks and leaks. The basement water leaks are more than a nuisance — they can cause water damage that costs as much as $3,000 to $5,000 to repair.
According to WJLA 7, at least one Phoenix-area home had a flooded basement as a result of the monsoon-like rains that brought subsequent basement water leaks.
David Aguilar, of Moapa Valley, said an inch of silt entered his home, which sits along the Muddy River, during the storm.
“All of a sudden, I heard the sound of water,” he said. He also explained that a water pipe in his house broke in addition to the rain-related flooding, WJLA 7 reported.
The lesson to be learned from this story? Now matter how arid and dry your area may be, it’s never a bad idea to invest in a foundation sealing or basement waterproofing procedure. In addition, repairing a cracked foundation is more than a home repair — it’s a protection of your investment.
